Trace the Thread - Event Day

After 4 months of preparation, finally the day arrived.

——Preloved Market


We slept for 1.5 hours the day before and arrived at The Whiteaways Arcade around 6.45am. I found out that the PBB Group didn't reserve the whole corridor for my pre-loved market. Only 10 tables reserved to me, which is what I requested from Occupy Beach Street people in charge, Ms Wing.


As this is what PBB Group promised to me since the very beginning, I looked for the Occupy Beach Street people in charge and asked about the situation. They claimed that they didn't received any notification from PBB Group. It is totally out of my expectation and dissapointed me. However, the staff of OBS was try his best to solve my problem. At last, I tolerated to share the corridor with others as long as my stalls are managed to in a line.


Since the pre-loved market is in charged by me, I have to make sure all the participants know the site of their stall, which is totally different with the floor plan I sent.



——Pre-preparation for Opening Ceremony


Around 7.10am when I settled my pre-loved market, I went to upstairs to help out for the set up that we left, such as the booth for voucher redemption and brief the staff in charge of PA system the agenda we will go on later. I also greet with the host, Juu Yenn who is my Han Chiang College junior when the time Jin Ling brief her regarding the agenda.


Head of business department, Mr Goh and our advisor Mr Faris reached around 9.15am in the early morning. I invited Mr Goh to give out welcome speech on the spot, but he was not available when the opening ceremony time since he leave early for some private issue. I have brief Mr Faris regarding our agenda and he told me that he have to leave at 10.30am.


Light refreshment has also been prepared for all the crews as well as audiences. We have received the cookies and cupcakes from Sugarfine the night before and Jin Ling will go collect 25 pizzas, which sponsored by US Pizza before the opening ceremony, while 2 of the volunteers: Peir Ing and Aeva went to collect the drinks. Ee Lin will in charge of the voucher redemption, while me will in charge of opening ceremony, Hui Ying is the assitant of me.


——Opening Ceremony


Unfortunately, there are not much audiences that came to our event. On the same day of our event, State Government has organized penang bridge marathon. Since we had already planned and prepared our event for so long time, we have to go on with our plan, even though we know that there will not be as much crowd as on the usual Sunday.


We have arranged few volunteers try to attract the crowd on the street of OBS. Luckily, we were still managed to attract some of the audiences over there to attend our opening ceremony. Besides, we have invited our friends and family to the event and we have around 20 of them that showed up, which had given us a lot of emotional supports.


We had finally went through the opening ceremony successfully from the welcome speech of Mr Faris, giving out thank you cerftificates for sponsors and artirts, lucky draw for 'Show Your Label', ribbon cutting, group photos and serve the light refreshement on time.



——Activities: Exhibition, Film Session, Pre-loved Market & Natural Dye Workshop


The result of our 4 activities is quite good when the crowds gradually increase around 10.30am. For the exhibition, Jin Ling managed to sell 8 pieces of artworks, which one of our buyer is Mr Faris. In sum, RM400 is gained from exhibition.


The film session also going smooth, but it is still a bit too long for audiences to sit there for 1 hours 45 minutes to finish it. While for the pre-loved market, there is crowds over there and I was happy to see they managed to sell off their pre-loved stuffs. Although they can't sell all of their pre-loved stuffs, at least they clean part of them and managed to help their pre-loved items find a new owner. From here, we gained around RM210 from the rental of 7 stalls.


For the Natural Dye Workshop, there is few audiences to join on the spot and a lots of people still come over to enquire about it. Unfortunately, there is no extra ingredients and materials preparation. Thus, there is no much audiences we can add in for this session. As promised by the tumbleknot, 10% of the profit we will get from this session.


The event ended smoothly after 7 hours, the actual amount of profit is to be updated.
